Harvest Moon is a rare Florida mango from Gary Zill's breeding program, grown from an Edward seedling. The fruit is large to very large and round, with firm, sweet, aromatic flesh and a rich flavor with plum notes. We're still confirming when it ripens on our Merritt Island trees.
Where does Harvest Moon come from?
Tropical Acres Farms reports that Harvest Moon was an Edward seedling from Gary Zill's program in Boynton Beach, Florida (planting number 4-20), possibly crossed with Carrie or Val-Carrie. The pollen parent isn't confirmed.
How big is a Harvest Moon mango?
Big. The 2025 Zill and UF/IFAS cultivar review lists the fruit as large to very large, 20–40 oz, and Tropical Acres Farms reports fruit weighing more than 3 lb. It's round, shaped more like a Kent, and turns light orange at maturity, sometimes with a red blush. Expect fewer pieces per box than with smaller varieties.
What does Harvest Moon taste like?
Tropical Acres Farms describes firm, sweet flesh in the classic flavor group “with notes of plum,” and says it has a superior flavor compared with most large-sized varieties they grow. The Zill and UF/IFAS review calls it aromatic, firm and sweet with a moderately intense to intense sweet-tart, rich Indian flavor and 13.9–18.9 °Brix. If you like classic Florida flavor, Tropical Acres Farms puts All Summer and Edgar in that group too.
When is Harvest Moon in season?
The Zill and UF/IFAS review lists it as mid-season, and Tropical Acres Farms picks it from July into August in West Palm Beach. Our Merritt Island season runs roughly May through September, and we're still confirming exactly when Harvest Moon ripens on our trees.
